AFCommerce Support Forums - Welcome !Enter The Support Forums, Click HereThese support forums have just been opened up again since the release of version 2. The date of this message is March 12, 2006, so they may seem to be empty for a little while. There are already a few moderators, and I have been and will continue to train them to be able to answer all of your questions. I will be posting here a lot in the beginning, but will slowly turn it over to the moderators so that I can spend my time adding new features and documentation. I will be reading almost every post and looking out for incorrect answers to make sure the quality of these forums is as close to perfect as possible.
This forum is the AFCommerce "Quick Forum" add on, which I have completely developed myself to seamlessly integrate in to the AFCommerce shopping cart software. This was part of the reason for the delay in putting them back up, and a few members could not understand why this had to be done. First, I wanted a forum system that I could completely tailor in to the software so that it would look exactly like the rest of this website and was flexible enough to add a forum to any page. You will see that most of the documentation has a forum directly on that page to quickly display common questions relating to that specific topic. Another reason was to take advantage of the custom development environment that became available with version 2, that automatically adds all of the security, customization, and development functions to any other piece of software that I build, making the entire software more flexible and powerful as more functions are added.
It is very important to me that these forums keep a positive attitude from ALL members, and is important to realize that any and all help given to you by my moderators is free, and is meant to truly help you build a perfect online store. The fact that it is free does not mean the help will not be bad or lazy, when in fact I am tough on my moderators to provide the best possible answers to your questions to earn other benefits that I provide to them on an individual basis depending on how involved they are and what their needs are from me.
I have read many forums on websites on almost every programming topic, and would truly like to see a user base that is looking to exchange help, meaning if you're going to ask alot of questions because you need help, you should also help others that have questions you are able to help them with. I have no problem helping people, I actually enjoy it a lot, and also do not mind training and giving special considerations to our moderators to motivate them to help you the best that they can, but it drives me crazy when I see some people pop up on the forums asking a ton of questions the first day to "test" us to see if we are lucky enough to keep them as a user. I'm sorry to sound so harsh about this but I just see it happen too much on other forums, and some of my own experiences with free support where some people do not appreciate that very knowledgeable developers, who normally charge for the same services they give away free here.
This does not mean you can not ask the questions you need answered to get your website going. The forums are here to help you and the rest of the community. If you are simply trying out every free cart out there, which is fine, I did that too before I wrote my own, but if we feel your making demands, do not have loyalty to this project, or are rude to anyone trying to help you, do not expect the moderators to go out of their way for you. This is true on all forums, the only difference is that I tell you upfront about it. I am simply trying to create a quality working environment for the real AFCommerce developers who help other people when they can and do not complain whenever they make a mistake or do not understand how to do something. In my experience, the people who make the harshest complaints are usually the same people who ask the most questions about unrelated topics, do not read the documentation, report "bugs" when they cause errors, and try very hard to find something negative to say. I spent weeks writing the documentation, which is already over 150 pages (by far more than any other shopping cart), and also spent a lot of time making this information easy to find, so if you don't look for your answers there first, and ask a question already covered in one of these documents, we can not waste time rewriting these answers when we could be adding new docs or features with that time. Again, this message is not to discourage you from asking for help, it is only here to create a standard of acceptable forum behavior that will help you receive better support in the future.
Thank you for being part of the AFCommerce community, Paul Crinigan.
