Amazon Brand Registry: How to Enroll and Benefits

Amazon Brand Registry is a free program that gives trademark-holding sellers access to enhanced listing tools, brand protection features, and exclusive advertising formats. Enrollment requires either a registered trademark or a pending application through Amazon's IP Accelerator program. The benefits are substantial: A+ Content increases conversion rates by 3% to 10%, Brand Analytics provides search and purchase data unavailable to non-enrolled sellers, Amazon Vine generates initial reviews for new products, and brand protection tools help you fight counterfeit listings and unauthorized sellers.

What You Need to Enroll

Brand Registry requires a trademark that meets Amazon's criteria. The trademark must be a text-based mark (word mark) or an image-based mark (design mark) that is either registered with a government trademark office or has a pending application through Amazon's IP Accelerator program. Amazon accepts trademarks from the USPTO (United States), CIPO (Canada), EUIPO (European Union), UKIPO (United Kingdom), JPO (Japan), and several other national offices.

Filing a trademark with the USPTO costs $250 to $350 per class through the TEAS Plus application system. Most Amazon sellers file in Class 021 (housewares), Class 025 (clothing), or whatever class matches their product category. The registration process takes 8 to 12 months from application to approval, which is a long wait when you want Brand Registry benefits for your product launch. Amazon's IP Accelerator program shortens this timeline by connecting you with Amazon-vetted trademark attorneys who can file your application and provide Brand Registry access with just a pending application, typically within 2 to 4 weeks. The attorney fees for IP Accelerator range from $600 to $2,000 depending on the firm.

Enrollment Process

Step 1: Prepare your trademark information.
You need your trademark registration number (or serial number if pending through IP Accelerator), the exact text or image of your registered mark, the product categories your trademark covers, and the countries where your products are manufactured and distributed. Your trademark must appear on your products or packaging, and Amazon may request images showing the mark on the actual product during verification.
Step 2: Submit your Brand Registry application.
Visit brandregistry.amazon.com and sign in with your Amazon seller account. Click "Enroll a new brand" and fill in the application form with your trademark details, brand information, and product images showing the trademark on your products or packaging. The application takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Double-check that the brand name in your application exactly matches the trademark registration, as any discrepancy causes rejection.
Step 3: Complete verification.
Amazon sends a verification code to the contact listed as the trademark owner on your trademark registration. This might be your email address, your attorney's email, or a mailing address depending on what was provided during trademark filing. Enter the verification code in your Brand Registry application. Once verified, Brand Registry access activates within 24 to 48 hours and applies to all listings under your registered brand name. The entire process from application to activation typically takes 1 to 2 weeks after submitting.

Key Benefits of Brand Registry

A+ Content (Enhanced Brand Content)

A+ Content replaces the standard product description with formatted modules containing images, comparison charts, feature callouts, and brand story sections. Amazon reports that A+ Content increases conversion rates by 3% to 10% and reduces return rates. You can create visually rich product pages that communicate quality, features, and brand identity in ways that plain text cannot. A+ Content is available for every listing under your registered brand, and you can create different A+ Content for each product. Premium A+ Content, available to top brands, adds interactive elements like video and hover-over hotspots.

Brand Analytics

Brand Analytics provides data that non-enrolled sellers cannot access. The Search Query Performance dashboard shows the most popular search terms in your category and which brands and products capture the most clicks and purchases for each term. The Market Basket Analysis shows which products customers frequently buy together with yours. The Item Comparison and Alternate Purchase report shows which products customers viewed alongside yours and ultimately purchased instead. This data informs product development, pricing strategy, advertising targeting, and competitive positioning.

Amazon Vine

Vine is Amazon's official early reviewer program. You enroll a product and provide up to 30 free units. Amazon distributes these units to Vine Voices, trusted reviewers who are selected by Amazon based on the helpfulness of their prior reviews. Vine reviewers are required to leave honest reviews, which may be positive or negative. The program costs a one-time enrollment fee per parent ASIN. Vine is the fastest legitimate way to get initial reviews on a new product, with most Vine reviews appearing within 2 to 4 weeks of enrollment.

Brand Protection Tools

Brand Registry gives you access to Report a Violation, which lets you report counterfeit products, trademark infringement, and listing hijacking. Project Zero uses automated protections to identify and remove suspected counterfeit listings without requiring you to file individual reports. Transparency is a product serialization service where unique codes are applied to every unit, allowing Amazon and customers to verify authenticity. These tools are essential for brands selling popular products that attract counterfeiters or unauthorized sellers.

Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display Advertising

Brand Registry unlocks two advertising formats not available to non-enrolled sellers. Sponsored Brands display a banner at the top of search results with your brand logo, a custom headline, and up to three products. Sponsored Display uses audience-based targeting to reach shoppers across Amazon and external websites. These additional advertising channels give you more ways to reach customers and build brand awareness beyond standard Sponsored Products campaigns.

Is Brand Registry Worth the Investment

For private label sellers, Brand Registry is not optional, it is essential. The combination of A+ Content, Vine, Brand Analytics, and enhanced advertising more than justifies the trademark filing cost of $250 to $2,000 depending on your approach. A+ Content alone can increase your conversion rate enough to generate thousands of additional dollars in revenue over the life of a product. Vine provides the initial reviews that new products need to gain traction. Brand Analytics gives you competitive intelligence that is impossible to get any other way.

For wholesale sellers, Brand Registry is only relevant if you own the brand you are selling. You cannot enroll in Brand Registry using a brand name you do not own. However, selling products from brands that are enrolled in Brand Registry means those brands may use their protection tools to restrict unauthorized resellers, which is an increasing risk in the wholesale model.
